Last episode!!!!
My last episode of Free Things Are Cool will air in 24 hours. I'm nervous. I've sort of been preparing but I'm so overwhelmed by the concept of a last show that I'm not sure how I'm gonna hone it down to something concise. I need sleep. I'm so tired. That's why I'm quitting. I get up by 5 am these days and a 9 to 11 pm show is ridiculous on that schedule.
Thirteen years of having a regular show on KAOS is enough, I think.

Show Tonight
I'll be doing my first radio show in quite a while tonight. We'll see how that goes. I'm alternately scared and excited to do a show. What if I get all emotional on the air. Uch! That would be suckie.Anyway, post comments if you've got any requests. Especially death-related requests. My radio show is gonna be free therapy for me. How exciting.
Here's a picture of my Aunt Connie and me. That was my first halloween costume. I can't remember what I was. A chipmunk maybe?

I've been scanning old pictures all day long
I've been sitting in my dad's computer chair scanning old photos for hours and hours and hours. It's one AM. I need to drive to my sister's apartment where I'm sleeping. Enough!

Bruce Martin 1943-2006
My father died this past weekend. We were very close and I'm really broken up about it. I'm flying to Florida tomorrow to settle stuff and to be with my sister.
I just don't know what I'm going to do. He always had the best advice on a whole range of subjects. What am I going to do the next time I'm trying to fix my car? I always called him for guidance.
I can't believe that he's not going to be picking me up from the airport when I arrive in Orlando. It's going to be so weird. I'm going to miss my wife and child terribly. I haven't gone five days without Gillian since she was born.
I'm so sad that Gillie isn't going to get to know her grandfather. He was so funny and good with kids. Luckily, her Grandpa Neil is still around to pal around with her.
Ugh.
There will be a memorial this weekend in Orlando and a burial/memorial in Copper Harbor, Michigan in late July.

Hello friends,
I've been a bad blogger.Again.
Such is my bloggy existence.
No excuses.
You may have noticed that there wasn't a playlist up for this past week. No, I didn't flake even that. I showed up to the radio station at 7 like I always do to prepare for my show at 9 and found that my show had been pre-emptied for The Homelessness Marathon. That's all fine and everything, but no one from the station had contacted me to let me know. I would've appreciated some warning. I'd have shown up at 9 instead of 7 since I just had to sit there and push buttons for a couple of hours instead of doing an actual show. So I didn't get to have dinner with my family and had to be at the station for 4 hours instead of 2. Lame. And I'm totally jonesin' to do a show. My subconscious keeps thinking I've got a show coming up, 'cause I keep thinking "oh, I've got to play this tomorrow! I'm a fucking addict when it comes to DJing. It's my only creative outlet anymore.
This past weekend was fun but gruling. I got to be Mr. Home improvement guy. I swapped out my leaky old water heater for a new one on Saturday and removed the toilet and sink from my bathroom in order to pull up the linoleum on Sunday. We're going to tile the bathroom and it's gonna look really nice when it's done (I hope.)
Gillian was quite a good little helper. She had watched mommy and daddy scraping the paper and glue backing off the floor with putty knives and later decided that she should do the same. I really wanted to get a picture of her "scraping" (really more tapping) the floor with the putty knife. It was so cute. She's a doll.
Speaking of the family, they should be home any minute, so I need to wrap this entry up so that I can play with my baby for a few minutes before she has to go to bed.

Free Things Are Cool Playlist for 1/18/06
So, there's this room in the basement of the College Activities Building on the campus of the Evergeen State College that is refered to by KAOSians as "The Crypt." The Crypt is actually just a cage in a larger room that KAOS has to store unused items. Mostly these are records and CDs that haven't been played in a long time and that are either too good or too bad to sell, or that we haven't gotten around to selling yet. Because of the massive influx of music that is really neverending, there must, from time to time, be "cryptings" of CDs from the main collection in the station itself. Sometimes, these cryptings are very contriversial. Today when I arrived at the station, I found 2 brimming mail buckets of what I considered to be horribly important electronic music CDs that were set aside for the downward journey. Immediate action was taken. The following playlist was pulled entirely from those buckets with the exception of the new DELTA 5 singles comp on KRS. I didn't Tech no for an answer. I cold rocked the party. Thanks to everyone that called. It was a lot of fun.

So, this was my "best of 2005" show. Best is such a funny term. There's no way that I could say that anything is the best when I haven't even listened to a percent of a percent of percent of the music that people made in a given year. All I know, is that these song represent some of my favorites of the past year. There were several that I really loved that just didn't make it in 'cause of time constraints, Edith Frost, most noteably. Anyway. It's late. I need to post this and go home to my cozy bed.
